Sanae Takaichi | The First Female Japan Prime Minister

Sanae Takaichi was elected as prime minister after voting in the upper and lower houses of the diet, on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.  Madame Takaichi is now the first female Japan Prime Minister.

At her first news conference as newly elected leader she emphasizes her will to produce results for the country and for its people, by emphasizing that she will never give up on building a stronger Japan … ‘that’s my determination, she convinced.’

At the first address, Madame Prime Minister announced her focus on countering rising prices and diplomacy.  On diplomacy, Madame Prime Minister emphasized her will to bring Japan as a proactive stance flourishing on the world’s center stage.

The cabinet is still under construction with following highlights:

  • There will be only two female ministers at the cabinet …’I just value equal opportunities for all. I formed the cabinet with the intention of uniting all members from all generations. I want to have the right person in the right position, to advance policies for the people as much as possible even one or two steps at a time.’
  • Shinjirō Koizumi, as defense minister.
  • Minoru Kiuchi, as the new minister in charge of growth strategy.
  • Satsuki Katayama, as finance minister.
  • Kimi Onoda, as the new economic security minister.
  • Kihara Minoru, as chief cabinet secretary.
