António Guterres – UN Secretary General at the 2026 year beginning customary exchange said recent early days have shaped up to be a year of constant surprises and chaos. This fact shows we are living in a world where actions are reckless and provoking dangerously, being divided and magnified by impunity epidemics. International law is trampled, cooperation is eroding and multilateral institutions are under assault on any fronts.
It is at our confident that 2026 priorities are kept in focus as of designed in Pact for the Future:
- Peace and security: ‘Security Council’ is the own and only body with a charter mandated authority to act on peace and security on behalf of every member country.
- To accelerate progress on the sustainable development goals and insisting on reform of the global financial architecture that includes ending the crushing cycle of depth, tripling the lending capacity of multilateral development banks and ensuring developing countries just participation and real influence in global financial institutions.
- On climate: it requires an overshoot of ambition starting with deep emissions cuts this decade and a just orderly and equitable transition from fossil fuels to renewables. We are demanding greater support for countries already confronting climate catastrophes, expanding early warning systems, opportunities for nations rich in critical minerals to climb global value chains.
- On technology: to help craft a framework for governance through a global dialogue, including setting up international scientific panel on AI and the creation of global funds with a target of USD 3 billion for AI capacity development.
