Women’s economic empowerment was central to the Beijing Declaration | Rebeca Grynspan | UNCTAD

24 February 2025 at the Human Rights Council panel, Rebeca Grynspan – Secretary-General of UNCTAD (United Nations Trade and Development) spoke on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Mme Grynspan emphasized that Beijing agenda was an agenda against discrimination which specifically corresponds to eliminating discrimination against women. The fact shows 30 years later after the declaration, there are 2.4 billion women don’t have the same economic rights than men across 178 countries.

Mme Grynspan who is the living witness and one of the thinkers of Beijing Declaration emphasized that Declaration has laid a foundation of rights to continue building and calls the global community to move from Declaration to Implementation.
