3 August 2025, Pope Leo celebrates the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time marks the Holy Mass for the Jubilee of Youth 2025 with as many of more than one million young Catholic worshipers from 146 countries. This event is the largest of his 3-month papacy. The Catholic church commemorates the Jubilee event in every 25 years, as part of the ongoing calendar of The Catholic Holy Year.
Yesterday, 2 August 2025, Tor Vergata – Rome witnessed the desires of hundreds of thousands global youth who intentionally arrived for attending the Evening Vigil prior to the Jubilee of Youth 2005 Mass on Sunday, 3 August 2025 marks the Holy Year 2025. Pope Leo joined the event with holding a wooden cross and walking together with the youth in what many calls a historic and symbolic act. His powerful gesture, as captured by cameras erupted the crowds in cheers, hymns, and prayers, witnessing a scene many described as once-in-a-lifetime. This moment underlines Pope Leo’s commitment to walk with the new generation, as well as to reflect the deeper mission of the Church in the modern world which is rooted in humility, journey, and shared purpose.
In an interactive session with the youth, Pope Leo answered a question on how to find the risen Lord in daily life. Pope Leo refers to what Pope Benedict XVI likes to say that ‘those who believe are never alone’. In other words, we encounter Christ in the church, that is communion of those who sincerely seek him. He also quotes on what St. Augustine wrote ‘You stir us to take pleasure in praising you because you have made us for yourself and our heart is restless until it rests in you. Lord, I would seek you and calling upon you is an act of believing in you’. Following St. Augustine’ words, to response the question: “I’d like to invite each of you to say to the Lord, thank you Jesus for calling me. My desire is to remain as one of your friends so that embracing you, I may also be a companion on the journey for anyone I meet. Grant, O Lord, those who get me may encounter you, though through my limitations and failures.”
