For World Food Day 2026, UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls for “Innovate Today—Nourish Tomorrow” as the year’s theme. The message urges us to harness collective knowledge and technology while reaffirming that food is a basic human right.
The UN Chief highlighted today’s interconnected crises and supply-chain disruptions, which have driven up food and fertilizer costs and reduced access to adequate nutrition.
Mr. Guterres proposed the following responses to these challenges:
- Develop clear strategies to strengthen food security.
- Use technological innovation, including data and artificial intelligence, to improve food management.
- Establish priority measures to improve food security.
- Strengthen collaboration among scientists, farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and young people.
- Drive systemic change by supporting food-producing ecosystems and building more resilient food systems.
