Reading needs attention as its declining trend continues

In recent years, there has been attention and worries about how reading has changed among kids globally. The fact shows it’s at the declining trend and it keeps continuing. Our current young generation enjoys much less and spends less time reading. The situation worsens by the fact that schools are assigning fewer books to read and a fact that every students receive a digital device once enter Kindergarten.

Trust, we all agree to live in this current technology era. The technology shows that machine is perceived as a solution for students for having no limit of repetition in completion their learning process. Unfortunately, this era is dominated by what it called era of social media, short videos on TikTok on elsewhere that is a kind of deal in form of short footage for large circulation. This paradigm swifts from traditional sources of writers for writing for an explanation to influencer for distributing the text message only. So, how to expect from this design?

Factually, the bedrock principle in neuroscience says that you get good at what you practice; your brain adjusts to what you know and it improves at the things that you spend time doing. So, if we are spending less time reading it means we are unable to decode words. It means we have much less background knowledge and vocabulary to aid in comprehension. We are less accustomed to be persisting through something for an extended period. The fact shows 2 decades ago the average attention span on a screen was 2.5 minutes, and in 5 years ago — it fell to 47 seconds. What does this figure mean for us? It means that people is being less accustomed to focusing on something. We are now seeing an erosion of the abilities to do complex synthesis, analysis and comprehension. This trend shows an up-continuity curve. This impact pictures the reality of children’ capacity currently. What sad is, that in recent poll shows 30% to 60% of GenZ prefer to be an influencer if they could. This result confirms the culture is now being shifted.
