Nature Restoration Is Everyone’s Business | COP17 Armenia

BirdLife International and its Armenian partner, the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), are collaborating with private-sector organizations—including Natura, KPMG, SOK Corp, IBAT, and GIST Impact—to urge partners and participants at the COP17 UN Biodiversity Conference to “stop the rot, protect the best, and restore the rest.”

This initiative supports key targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

Three Priorities for Nature

  • Stop the rot — Target 18: Reform, phase out, or eliminate subsidies that support environmentally destructive industries.
  • Protect the best — Target 3: Conserve and effectively manage at least 30% of the world’s land, inland waters, coastal areas, and oceans.
  • Restore the rest — Target 2: Ensure that effective restoration is underway on at least 30% of degraded terrestrial, inland-water, coastal, and marine ecosystems.

A Global Call to Action

On 15 October 2026, ahead of the opening of the COP17 UN Biodiversity Conference, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres underscored the importance of biodiversity:

“The food we eat, the water we drink, the very air we breathe — all are the gifts of biodiversity.”

He called on governments, businesses, and communities to accelerate efforts to protect biodiversity for future generations and all life on Earth.
