The fact shows food price is getting expensive

A simple economic rule says that market price is determined by demand and supply factors.  Currently, most everyone says food price becoming expensive and it keeps escalating.  The raised question in common now, what really happened?

26 May 2026 in Rome, at the Global Summit on Food Science, Nutrition and Technology dedicated by FAO, IFAD and WFP; Pedro Sánchez – Spain Prime Minister made it clear that factually, the capacity of world food production is more than sufficient to feed its entire population. Unfortunately, it is us who leads it into disaster with war that counts as main factor.  The fact shows, in most case war and/or conflict create hunger. This fact is exactly what happens today. Our record for the last 8 years shows there are 20,000 attacks taken place at markets, farmland and ruined food distribution system.  To enable understand clearly, please look at current situation in Gaza as a real case (model).  Gaza is where some seek to win a war by starving the people.  This war is unjust and clearly illegal. The war not only affected Gaza exclusively, unfortunately it ruined the entire area including existing support systems.  Consequently, as seen today that it caused global food crises on an unprecedented scale, resulting in disrupted supply chains, blockading ports including vital transport routes that leads fuel price hikes.  This phenomenon can be avoided once we act decisively.

To minimize risk and to keep supply site safe, Qu Dongyu – Director-General, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) calls all FAO members join  global biodiversity community with initial aim to act locally for global impact with highlighting  the importance of action at local level to ensure effective response to global challenges, focusing on the transformation of food system for more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient and more sustainable starts from local level to translate into tangible results at national, regional and global level.  These efforts to result a better information system that enabling policies and advance all actions for better production, better nutrition, better environment to reach the aim of SDG 1 – #LeavingNoOneBehind.
