At this 2026 Word Ocean Day, António Guterres – UN Secretary General calls all member states’ awareness to stop keeping treating the ocean limitless. We must force for a new relationship with ocean grounded in science framed by international law and built on shared responsibility across nations, sectors and generations to advance the sustainable development goals. Protecting the seas isn’t charity, it is sound management, security, good economics more importantly a shared asset through an international cooperation practical tool serving for the national interest. It’s our shared story, a story that legends are made of.
Today, the 3rd World Ocean Assessment is launched. It a wonderful book of knowledge that allows for us to understand where we are and what we need to do. It is a document with almost 1,700 pages long with 550 plus experts from around the world contributing their knowledge to make it truly a place to depend on. Fabien Cousteau calls for the care about the ocean by knowledge sharing, especially today that most everyone has a phone in their pocket. Please use it wisely by engaging others in your local community, capturing what really matters on human beings care first and foremost about themselves and their own survival.
