At this International Day of Peace 2026 António Guterres – Secretary-General, calls on world leaders to act, invest in solutions and do the hard work of building lasting sustainable peace.” Though, this is his last time ring the Peace Bell, Secretary General emphasizes his commitment to always stand with the champions of peace around the world.
Khalilur Rahman – President of the General Assembly’s 81st session, emphasizes that invest in peace is to invest in trust and, 81 years on, in the confidence that multilateral action can still deliver for those it exists to serve.
This year theme – “Investing in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”- reminds us of this calling.” The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.
25 years after, starting 19 September 2026 children reside in conflict zone such as Gaza and Iran are back in school; though, at a very minimum facility. The children are very happy to be back in school meeting their old friends and/or making new friends after 3 years of no school. It is highly expected to see more coverage from other part of the world — to confirm that peace is now at gradually restored stage.
